It’s that time of year when the great British panto hits our theatres and stages. Providing entertainment for all the family, a trip to the pantomime is a magical occasion and has its roots set firmly in Christmas tradition.

If you would like to watch a pantomime this Christmas, here’s what’s on offer in Berkshire:

Jack and the Beanstalk – Hexagon, Reading

03 Dec – 02 Jan

Prepare for some belly laughs at The Hexagon with the brilliant Jack and the Beanstalk. Starring children’s television star, Justin Fletcher, aka ‘Mr Tumble’, as Gill Trott and award-winning funny-man, Paul Morse, as Nanny Hydrangea Trott, this production is guaranteed to entertain the whole family.

There are relaxed performances for families with young children, people with an Autism Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorders or learning disabilities on Friday 29th December and Friday 30th December. British Sign Language signed performances take place on Saturday 17th December and Thursday 29th December.

The duration of the panto is approximately 2hrs 20 mins including an interval. Tickets start at £14.

Jack and the Beanstalk – Wilde Theatre, Bracknell

A brand-new version of the timeless Jack and the Beanstalk is coming to the Wilde Theatre. Michael Ayiotis, Paul Toulson and Ben Featherston return to the venue for another panto season and will be joined by newcomers including Amy Rhiannon Worth and Adam Jessop. Organisers invite you to follow Jack on this ‘hilarious, fee-fi-fo-fun-filled adventure’ and experience the magic and mayhem of the panto.

There will be adult-only performances for over 18s on Wednesday 30th November, Thursday 1st December, Thursday 8th December, Friday 9th December, Wednesday 14th December, Thursday 15th December and Friday 16th December, all at 7pm. A relaxed ‘autism friendly’ performance will take place on Saturday 26th November (12.30pm) and a British Sign Language performance on Saturday 3rd December (3pm).

The duration of the panto is approximately 2hrs 20mins including an interval. Tickets start at £23.50 with discount for group bookings. 

Sleeping Beauty – Theatre Royal, Windsor

The historic Theatre Royal nestled beside Windsor Castle is the venue for a star-studded production of Sleeping Beauty. This panto features children’s television celebrity fox, Basil ‘Boom-Boom’ Brush, as the lovable Lord Chamberlain, former Doctor Who, Tom Baker, as the dragon and ex-BBC Radio 1 DJ, Mike Read, as King Clifford, father of the cursed Beauty.

A relaxed, autism friendly performance will take place on Tuesday 29th November (1.30pm) and an audio described performance on Wednesday,14th December (7pm).

The panto lasts approximately 2hrs 30mins including an interval. Tickets start at £18.50.

Cinderella – New Victoria Theatre, Woking

02 Dec – 31 Dec

The family-friendly pantomime Cinderella heads to Woking, just a short distance from Berkshire, with comedian and Strictly Come Dancing star, Brian Conley, leading the cast in the role of Buttons. Join Cinders, the handsome prince and her evil stepsister at the ball for buckets of fun, innuendo and audience participation.

There will be a relaxed ‘autism friendly’ performance on Thursday 8th December (1pm), a captioned performance on Friday 16th December (7pm), an audio description performance on Tuesday 27th December (5pm) and a sign language interpreted performance on Thursday 29th December (7pm).

The duration of the panto if approximately 2hrs 30 mins including an interval. Tickets start at £13.

Jack and the Beanstalk – Braywick Leisure Centre, Maidenhead

17 Dec – 24 Dec

It’s time for family panto fun as Jack and the Beanstalk comes to Maidenhead for a week-long production. Packed with all the usual panto traditions plus a few extra treats, get ready to roar with laughter as you cheer on hero Jack on his journey to defeat the Giant, save the village and his best friend, Daisy the Cow.

Former Oliver stage actor, Emmet Carroll, makes his return to the stage as Jack and will be joined by Joe Feeney as the feisty, fun-loving, Dame Trott.

Performances start at 1.30pm and 5pm each day (1.30pm only on Christmas Eve) and last approximately 2hrs 20mins. Tickets start from £15.

Cinderella – The Anvil, Basingstoke

09 Dec – 02 Jan

Debbie McGee makes her Anvil debut as the Fairy Godmother alongside Chris Pizzey in this family-friendly production of Cinderella. Expect laugh-out-loud jokes, wonderful costumes and scenery and even two Shetland ponies in the ultimate rags to riches Christmas story.

The cast will be putting on a relaxed performance which will also be British Sign Language signed on Tuesday 20th December (2pm). The production lasts approximately 2hrs 20mins including an interval. Tickets start from £22.50.

Jack and the Beanstalk – Corn Exchange, Newbury

25 Nov – 31 Dec 

Clare Plested, Adam Brown and Amanda Wilsher have been entertaining Newbury audiences for several years and are returning with a fresh take on the pantomime classic, Jack and the Beanstalk. This production is packed with songs, jokes and fun for all the family.

Visitors can meet the cast at a gala performance on Saturday December 03 (5pm) and there will be adult-only nights on 2nd, 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th of December (8pm). A relaxed ‘autism friendly’ performance will take place on Thursday 29th December (1.30pm) a captioned performance on Friday 30th December (1.30pm) and an audio described performance on Friday 30th December (5pm).

Performances last approximately 2hrs 20mins including an interval and tickets start at £21.25.

Cinderella – Whitty Theatre, Wokingham

03 Dec

Cinderella is a festive treat for the whole family with toe-tapping tunes, plenty of booing and hissing and the usual pantomime chaos and fun.

Please note this is a one-day show with performances starting at 3pm and 6.30pm on Saturday 3rd December. The production lasts approximately 1hr 50 mins including an interval and tickets start at £15.

Dick Whittington – Whitty Theatre, Wokingham

29 Dec

Join Wokingham Pantomime Group for a family-friendly production of Dick Whittington and follow the fortunes of a poor boy who travels to London to seek fame and fortune.

Please note this is a one-day show with one performance starting at 1pm. The production lasts approximately 2hrs including an interval and tickets start at £15.

Cinderella – Oxford Playhouse

Nov 25 – Jan 08

Join Cinderella, played by Priscille Grace, and her best friend Buttons the mouse, played by Philippa Carson, on a midnight carriage ride like no other in this Playhouse panto extravaganza for all the family.

A relaxed, autism-friendly performance will take place on Sunday 4th December (11am) and an audio described performance at 4pm the same day and also on Saturday 7th January (7pm). There will be a British Sign Language performance on Thursday 15th December (6pm), a dementia-friendly performance on Tuesday 3rd January (11am) and a captioned performance on Wednesday 4th January (6pm).

The production lasts approximately 2hrs and includes an interval. Tickets start from £15.
