Places of Interest
Within East Berkshire and the Thames Valley area there is a wonderful
variety of places to visit. Whether you like historic buildings, countryside
pursuits, arts, history, water-sports, shopping, or whether you would
just like to glide down the Thames on a boat, there is something to suit
all tastes. If you want a day out the towns of Windsor, Oxford and Henley-on-Thames
are all within easy reach.
The town of Reading has a great deal of history and much can be learned
at the Museum of Rural Life at Reading University www.rdg.ac.uk/rhc.
More local places of interest can also be found at

The excellent Blakes Lock Museum on the canal is well worth a visit and
Reading Town Museum, (www.readingmuseum.org.uk)
And in Forbury Park can be found the ruins of the once great Reading Abbey
founded by Henry I. Reading Gaol is where Oscar Wilde was imprisoned in
1895. In Bracknell, the Wilde Theatre, named after him, offers a variety
of performance arts from dramatic productions to music and dance.
Adjacent
to the theatre is the South Hill Park Arts Centre www.southhillpark.org.uk
recently reopened after major refurbishment and offering music events,
theatre, art gallery, restaurant, cinema and arts, dance and music classes.

Shopping
The Oracle Centre in the heart of the town is a state of the art shopping
mall with a difference - a branch of the Kennet and Avon Canal runs through
the centre and provides a delightful place to stop and regain your energy
at one of the many cafes and restaurants before you explore the Centre.
